Spring clearing - the dining room (lots of dining eye candy too!)

This room will probably be one of the easier rooms in your home. With the uprising of eat-in-kitchens many of us find our dining rooms not used. Save this room for a day when you don't have a lot of time or pair it with another task.

• Dust down the ceiling and corners
Consider if the walls in your home need to be washed. Check here for information on how to clean different wall surfaces. Don't forget air vents and switch plates.

• Dust and clean all wall art. Be careful when cleaning framed art and photographs. Never spray cleaner or water onto the frame. The liquid can seep behind the glass and damage the pictures. Instead lightly wet a clean cloth to wipe the frame and glass.

• Clean the Ceiling Fan.You know what's worse than a fly in your soup, a large chunk of dust from your ceiling fan in your soup. Dust the fan and fan blades. You may need to use a gentle cleanser like Murphy’s Oil Soap mixed with water and a cleaning cloth. Take down light fixtures and gently wash and dry them before replacing.

• Take down draperies and curtains to wash or have cleaned according to the directions. Dust down any blinds and other window treatments. Dust down and wash window sills and corners. Wash the inside and outsides of windows. Take down and rinse off screens, before replacing.

• Wash down the dining table, chairs, and any other furniture thoroughly. If you have wood furniture that needs to be oiled or waxed, do this now. If your chairs have an upholstered seat, spot clean the seats.

• Clean the carpet and rugs. You can choose to use a carpet professional, rent a cleaning machine, or vacuum and spot-treat according to soil level.

What You Need:
  • Dust mop (preferably with a long handle)
  • Step-ladder
  • Cleaning cloths
  • Small bucket with handle
  • Sponges
  • Vacuum with attachment
  • Gentle cleanser
  • Rug shampoo machine with upholstery attachment (optional)
  • Spot remover for upholstery or carpets (optional)

Dream Kitchens

I don't feature a whole lot of inspiration for kitchens; I guess because I don't really use mine too often. Ashley + kitchen= disaster. I've tried and tried, but things just don't really seem to work for me in there, so I leave it to others. However...count on Eric Roth to inspire me! He captures these kitchens so beautifully, even I would be willing to spend time in them!

Love the big wood table mixed in with modern furniture

This kitchen looks like a Vemeer...we just need a lady with a pitcher...

Lovely dog. Also, the wood beams with the venetian plaster paint technique really adds an "old world" feel.

Tres Chic Inspirational Interiors

Last night I finished painting my bedroom a lovely powder French-country blue (pictures too come!), so needles to say I have French country on the brain. French country can vary so greatly because France is so large, but most people probably think of the idyllic cottages of Provence. My definition is probably a little too loose for some, all I know is I love the sophisticated rustic charm, bringing touches of the outdoors inside, and the romance.

Eco chic furniture and accessories

So, I know that "green" and "eco-friendly" items aren't exactly new buzzwords anymore. But I still love when I find a product that is made from recycled glass or reclaimed wood. What's even better is if the product is designed well and affordable. It's hard to find all of those things from one seller (especially affordability), but VivaTerra comes close!

Flowered enamel picnicware, starts at $35
I don't know why I like these, they're kitsch, but I like these

Ecowood grid shelf, $69

Recycled glass vases, $39 to $98

Suzani benches, $395 for narrow, $895 for wide

Gustavian vintage bed, $1,995 - $2,095
*swoon*

Branch and glass side table, $198

Entwined root stool, $99
I would take the glass top idea from the first table and put it on the root stool.

Railroad tie dining table $998

boatwood clock, $69

Idea House Tours, from Modern to Victorian

Some idea houses and private home tours via Sunset Magazine

Great way to display collectibles

This is a nice solution for an open kitchen layout, it'd be great for entertaining because guests could sit on the couch and the host can still keep an eye on things in the kitchen.

ooh...the blue, the stools, the table, the book ledge!

Nice way to display anything to spur creativity

I know you'd think you'd never hear these words from me...but I like that dark navy wall!

what a fab idea!
